Plastic Omnium supplies EFA-S with fuel cell systems to equip hydrogen-powered truck

Elektro-Fahrzeuge Stuttgart GmbH (EFA-S) selected Plastic Omnium for the delivery of fuel cell systems to equip the GAZelle with an e-powertrain. This emission-free truck will first be used by the city of Esslingen (Germany) for road maintenance. The ambition of EFA-S is to set up a fleet of more than 100 hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2023.

Soon a new plant in China!

Plastic Omnium announces the construction of a new plant in LinGang, Shanghai region, by YFPO, its joint venture with Yanfeng which ranks as China’s leading manufacturer of exterior body systems.

China, the world’s largest automotive market, is strategic for Plastic Omnium, which already has 32 production facilities, 2 R&D centers and an office in Shanghai. The Group generated 11% of its economic revenue in China in 2020 (€847 million).

The foundation stone of the LinGang plant was laid at the end of May, in presence of 70 guests including our customers and government representatives. The production of bumpers will start in 2022, with a capacity of more than 1 million parts per year.

Hopium unveils Māchina, its hydrogen-powered sedan prototype, equipped with Plastic Omnium’s hydrogen storage system

Hopium, the new French manufacturer of hydrogen powered sedans, unveils its very first rolling prototype during the Viva Technology week in Paris. This high-end vehicle, aims to be the first French hydrogen-powered sedan to hit the market in 2026.

The Māchina prototype will be equipped with a 700-bar Type IV* vessel made by Plastic Omnium in its Herentals plant (Belgium), which is operational since fall 2020.
This new generation will be optimally integrated into the vehicle chassis, enabling Hopium to maximize the quantity of hydrogen stored and achieve its ambitious 1,000-kilometer target range.

Two new members join Plastic Omnium’s Executive Committee

Plastic Omnium announces the appointment of two new members to its Executive Committee.

– Kathleen Wantz-O’Rourke was appointed to the Executive Committee on June 1st as Executive Vice-President, Group Chief Financial Officer and Chief Information Officer. Kathleen, who is a dual French-Australian citizen, was formerly Group Executive Director Financial & Legal at Keolis.
A graduate of Paris-Dauphine University and Duke University (Advanced Management Program) in the USA, she also has a Masters II degree from the Institut de Haute Finance in Paris. Kathleen began her career in 1984 at Siemens where she held various positions, including in finance and business administration, working in Germany, Australia, France, Belgium and Luxembourg. In 2008, she was appointed Managing Director Finance & Business Administration Siemens France, and CFO South-West Europe for its Energy division. She joined ENGIE in 2012 as Director Action Plan and Group Performance. In 2016 she joined Akka-Technologies as Group Senior Vice-President Operations & Performance.

– Alexandre Corjon was also appointed to the Executive Committee on June 1st as Group Executive Vice-President for Innovation.
A graduate of ISAE Poitiers with a PhD from SupAero, Alexandre spent many years in the aeronautics and space industry, primarily with Airbus, before moving to the automotive industry. He created and led the Electric, Electronic and Systems division at the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, splitting his time between France and Japan from 2014 to 2020. During this period he also developed the Alliance’s roadmap for connected and autonomous vehicles, setting up the Alliance Software Center and the Renault Software Lab. Before joining Plastic Omnium, he was a Digital Operations Partner with PwC France. As Group Executive Vice-President Innovation, Alexandre will lead the Plastic Omnium’s innovation strategy and accelerate its leadership in sustainable and connected mobility, working with a highly diverse customer base.

EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies secures high-volume series production contract for fuel cell stacks

– Subsidiary of ElringKlinger and Plastic Omnium receives series production order covering a projected total volume in the high double-digit million euro range

– Contract with AE Driven Solutions for exclusive, multi-year supply of NM5-evo fuel cell stacks from 2022 onward

AE Driven Solutions equips delivery vehicles for urban spaces with fuel cell systems

EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies GmbH (EKPO), the joint venture between ElringKlinger (60%) and Plastic Omnium (40%), is continuing to fill up: Aachen-based mobility company AE Driven Solutions GmbH (AEDS) has awarded EKPO an exclusive, multi-year contract to supply fuel cell stacks of the type NM5-evo. The order covers a planned volume in the high double-digit million euro range. The stacks are designed to meet AEDS’s key criteria of performance, durability, and smooth operation and are to be fitted to delivery vehicles as part of the company’s system integration efforts, the aim being to offer environmentally friendly drive technology in urban spaces. Series production of the stacks is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2022.

Plastic Omnium signs partnership with Hopium to develop the hydrogen storage system the Māchina

Plastic Omnium has announced a partnership with Hopium, the French manufacturer of high-end hydrogen cars, to develop the hydrogen storage system for the anticipated Hopium Māchina.

This high-end sedan, first announced in October 2020, aims to be the first French hydrogen-powered car to hit the market in 2026. The Māchina prototype is due to be unveiled to the press in June 2021. It will be equipped with a 700-bar Type IV* vessel made by Plastic Omnium in its Herentals plant (Belgium), which is operational since fall 2020.

EKPO will supply fuel cell stack to GCK for their high power Fuel Cell system

EKPO Fuel Cell technologies (EKPO), a joint venture between ElringKlinger AG and Plastic Omnium, has been selected by GCK (Green Corp Konnection) as stack supplier for their high power fuel cell system. With this award, EKPO will launch their “NM12 Twin Stack” which boasts a market leading power of over 200 kW, and is specially designed for applications with high output requirements.

This system will be adapted by GCK to a range of industrial applications, making its first outing on their hydrogen-powered vehicle that will compete in the 2023 Dakar Rally.

Jana KLEY joins Plastic Omnium’s Executive Committee as Group Executive Vice-President Human Resources

As of May 3, Jana KLEY will join Plastic Omnium’s Executive Committee as Group Executive Vice-President Human Resources.

Jana’s mission will be to support the transformation of the Group by implementing a business oriented HR strategy with a strong focus on talent management, performance and digitalization at the service of an agile organization.

A German national, Jana spent her entire career in Human Resources functions at United Technologies Corporation (UTC) Industrial Group where she has developed her expertise in organizational transformation, leadership, management support and labor relations in international and multicultural environments.

She began her career in 1996 at the elevator division of UTC in Germany. Jana moved to France in 2000 when she joined the Carrier group where she held various positions as Human Resources Director in Europe and the United States.

In 2010, she re-joined Otis elevator division as HR Director for 15 countries (in North and Eastern Europe and Africa).

In 2014, she became Vice-President Human Resources France, Switzerland and Africa at the Building &Industrial Systems Division of the UTC Group and led the HR function for the entire division in Europe in 2015. In 2018, Jana was appointed Vice President Human Resources and Communication Europe, Middle East & Africa at Otis elevator, covering 26,000 employees in 43 countries.

Cécile CANET-TEIL is appointed Group VP Corporate Communications and associate member of the Executive Committee

Plastic Omnium announces the appointment of Cécile Canet-Teil as Group VP Corporate Communications and associate member of the Executive Committee.
In her new position, Cécil’s mission is to leverage the Group’s communications to raise awareness on its strategy, its unique positioning in low-carbon mobility and its sustainable development ambitions.

Prior to joining Plastic Omnium, Cécile CANET-TEIL served as Communications Director for the Solvay chemical group from 2016 to 2020, based in Brussels. She successively managed the Group’s external communications, including the change of logo and the deployment of the new brand identity worldwide. From 2008 to 2012, she was in charge of internal communications for the chemical group Rhodia. Previously, she held increasingly responsible communication positions at Altadis, Seita and Rhône Poulenc where she began her career in 1993.

Cécile is a graduate of the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences de l’Information et de la Communication (CELSA-Sorbonne) in Paris.

Solid business levels in the first quarter of 2021

– Economic revenue* up: 4.8%;
– Outperformance of 4 points in Europe, and 22 points in Asia excluding China; strong growth in China (+79%);

Revenue up 4.8% in the first quarter of 2021

Plastic Omnium generated economic revenue of €2,157 million in the first quarter, up 4.8% at constant exchange rates. Growth was driven by Plastic Omnium Modules, where revenue rose 12.5% at constant exchange rates.
Revenue from joint ventures (mainly businesses related to the production of exterior parts in China (YFPO) and the assembly of modules in South Korea (SHB)) rose 65.4% at constant exchange rates in the first quarter of the year.
Plastic Omnium’s consolidated revenue, excluding joint ventures, amounted to €1,985 million in the first quarter of 2021, up 1.5% at constant exchange rates compared with the first quarter of 2020.

EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies, is now ready to start operations, having implemented all contractual arrangements and been granted the necessary antitrust approvals. The newly created company offers state of the art and cost competitive fuel cell stacks and components for a broad range of applications, with an initial focus on commercial vehicles and buses and then on passenger cars. Specialist vehicles, trains, and ships are also fields of development.
